(407 ETR Concession Company Ltd.)

Kayanase was retained by SNC-Lavalin and the 407 ETR Concession Company Ltd. to design and implement ecological restoration works at environmentally sensitive area sites affected by highway construction activities.

Restoration works have already been implemented at Sixteen Mile Creek Valley and are intended to restore upland mixed oak forest cover, to extend and protect the interior forest habitat adjacent to the Sixteen Mile Creek Environmentally Sensitive Area.

Restoration works included site preparation, weed management and planting through direct seeding as well as the installation of bare root, plug and potted stock of ecologically appropriate wild-type, source identified plant stock, supplied by the Kayanase nursery.

Work is also underway in Rouge Park at the Little Rouge Creek and Rouge River Valley crossing sites, to restore valley land habitat at these crossing sites.

Restoration at these sites focuses on retaining habitat structure and function of the valley land and riparian corridor.
