About
Us
Our
organization is about restoring our Mother the Earth;
holistically, through the collection of native seeds locally
sourced from around each area we restore, to seed processing,
seed propagation, planting, monitoring and eventually back to
healthful biodiversity.
The
work of Kayanase is extremely meaningful for the people in our
community and is far reaching, creating a bridge between other
communities to share knowledge and promote partnerships
towards the goal of protecting habitat and enhancing disturbed
lands, both in our traditional territories and beyond.
Part
of the duty of the Haudenosaunee is to live in balance and
harmony with each and all livings things. Before all else, the
Haudenosaunee give thanks to Mother Earth for she gives us
what we need to sustain life. We also acknowledge the Waters,
Fish, Plant Life (Food and Medicine), Animals, Trees, Birds,
the Four Winds, the Thunders, Our Grandmother Moon, Our Eldest
Brother the Sun, the Stars, and the Enlightened Teachers, as
each plays a significant role in our world. Lastly, we always
turn our thoughts to the Creator and send greetings and thanks
for all these gifts of Creation.
The
Haudenosaunee worldview is integral to Kayanase’s approach
to ecological restoration, which aims to incorporate
science-based techniques and adaptive management with
Haudenosaunee cultural values and ecological knowledge.
