Escarpment Staircase (Dougan & Associates)

Kayanase acted as a sub-consultant and a restoration contractor to complete an ecological restoration of the escarpment staircase at the new upper level staircase along the Hamilton Rail Trail to the Mountain Brow site in Hamilton, Ontario.

This restoration project involved the use of innovative and yet, very cost-effective measures for site preparation and erosion control, to support ecological restoration of the site.

Large woody, rock material and seed salvaged from the site was combined with clean leaf mulch to create ground conditions on the steep escarpment slope that prevent soil erosion while promoting high success for establishment of native trees, shrubs and herbaceous layer of species, consistent with the natural healthy escarpment forest community.

The work was completed in partnership with Dougan and Associates.
